Well come to find out it is pretty much impossible to compete with mailorder and all online stores who drag one another right down to the ground just to make a few extra dollars and wind up making 5 dollars on a muggy? But we need to stay strong and fight off the mail order competition by having what the customer wants and when they want it. Yea you got that right Dennis, my brother and I recently started our own Hobby Shop and were great on the idea of online sales. If I don't collect the tax I go to jail, and that is something I won't do to compete with mailorder. One of the hardest issues to deal with is the sales tax issue and that is up the the state and federal goverments. The best part of having my store is all the local racers on saturday am bsing and having a good my place!īut as a LHS owner I must buy from everybody. If i bought it for what $ tower does i could probably sell it for 1 /2 what they do. id have to sell a few of those to pay the light bill.lol i once did a comparison for a revo truck and if i matched all towers incentives and added my sales tax my gross profit was $3.78. complaints to my sales rep about tower coupons and pricing have fallen on deaf ears. after recent changes at gp i am having a psing match with them and have moved almost all my purchaces to horizon. I would like to see some type of buyers coop or similar membership that small shops could buy through and that "co-op"would cut out the gp tower, horizon, hobbypeople group and leave them to their catalog sales. like it or not tower and horizon are not going away anytime soon. i have the best customers a business could ask for (except for the guy that bruned me for a $1000.00 bad check). i have a small shop in a small town yada yada yada. Looks like lots of good opinions here so ill throw in mine too.
